About the Author

Bob Jenks has been heavily involved in business planning throughout most of his career, starting with implementation of the first business plan for one of General Electric's most successful businesses (its Meter Department). Then at GE's Power Distribution Division, as Manager of Business Planning at both the department and division level, he facilitated strategic planning for a number of businesses.

Later the president of ITE-Imperial asked him to be Director of Planning for the corporation. Some three acquisitions later, he ended up with the US arm of Brown Boveri as Vice President of Engineering and then as Technical Planning Vice President. Although his work for BBC was in engineering line management, it ended up very focused on strategic business planning, particularly on the global implications of product planning decisions.

In his career with both GE and BBC, Bob learned to apply simple techniques that helped time-pressured managers take substantial control over future uncertainties. Most importantly, he came to understand the fundamental benefit of closely integrating with knowledgeable and supportive colleagues.

After moving to south Florida Bob helped put together the first practical business plan for the Palm Beach County Health Department and published Go For It!, a strategy workbook for the time-pressured business manager. He also continues as Professor of Management at Walden University.

A former Naval Aviator, Bob Jenks has AB and MBA degrees, both from Harvard.

He and his wife Ginny live in North Palm Beach, Florida.
